Peyton Heart Project

peyton

This year the Houston Fiber Fest is partnering up with the Peyton Heart Project to raise awareness about suicide and bullying. Please visit ThePeytonHeartProject.org to learn more about this important organization.

Stop by the Peyton Heart Project booth in the atrium to say hello, donate hearts, or learn more about the organization. The tables in the atrium stitching lounge will have yarn for you to knit or crochet your own heart at the festival! You can make a few hearts while you wait, or make hearts ahead of time to bring with you. There are links to several free knit & crochet heart patters available at ThePeytonHeartProject.org/making-the-hearts/

Announcing our 2017 Headliners: Lucy Neatby and JC Briar!

Lucy Neatby is an internationally recognized teacher, designer, and writer who thrills knitters around the world with her inimitable charm, knowledge, and uniquely colourful designs. Her passion for nurturing and empowering knitters, and putting them in control of their art, is legendary! She is the author of three books: Cool Socks Warm Feet, Cool Knitters Finish in Style, A Little Book of BIG Holes for Hand-knitters! and the Learn With Lucy DVD series.

Lucy does not plan to renew her US Visa when it expires later this year. This may be your final chance to take a class from her locally! Our event is likely to be one of her last in the United States.

Lucy will be teaching:
Double Knitting For The Addicted
The Contented Stitch – Self Sufficiency For Knitters
Lucy’s Hot Sock Tricks
Taking The Plunge – Launching Into Your Own Designs
Ambidextrous Knitting – Knitting With Both Oars In The Water
Short Row Wizardry

JC Briar is a self-professed knitter, puzzle solver, and chart fanatic. She likes to ask questions, probe beyond the surface, and figure things out for herself. Which cast on method really is the most stretchy? How do you knit sock heels and toes that really fit? JC has honed her teaching skills to recognize that different students have different learning styles, and she tries to adapt to match each student’s needs.

JC is author of the book Charts Made Simple and creator of the revolutionary Stitch Maps charting software.

JC will be teaching:
Charts Made Simple
Charts Made Essential
Disaster Recovery
Mapping Lace Scarves
Wedge Shawl Design
Socktastic Stitch Patterns

* Class schedules and prices will be announced at a later date.

Now accepting 2017 class proposals

What’s new for teachers this year?

  • Festival hours have been expanded to a full weekend! There will be classes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • We will have two national knitting teachers this year, so we are especially looking for submissions that feature other techniques: crochet, spinning, weaving, felting.
  • Classrooms have moved away from the vendor hall and into a smaller conference room. Our local teachers will be limited to a maximum of about 10-12 students per class.
  • Applications are ONLINE ONLY this year. This eliminates the risk of getting lost in the mail.

Visit our CLASSES page to submit a class proposal. The deadline is February 15, 2017.
